A concert as part of the Seigla Chamber Music Festival at Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík.
Three voices intertwine in this programme to explore the myths of the natural world. Harpa Ósk Björnsdóttir (Iceland), Kristín Einarsdóttir Mäntylä (Iceland/Sweden) and Sophie Kidwell (Britain) bring together opera, art song, and folk traditions from across Europe. Moving between rivers, forests, and the supernatural beings said to inhabit them, the music traces stories that have flowed through European culture for centuries.
Featuring scenes from operas such as Das Rheingold, Hänsel und Gretel, The Cunning Little Vixen and Rusalka, as well as songs such as Clara Schumann’s Lorelei, and Rebecca Clarke’s haunting The Seal Man, the three voices weave together a tapestry of folklore, landscape, and imagination.
